Playing together
A family fun day out at the Maize Maze near Bayeux - a 100% nature attraction- is an invitation to get lost in a magical world. Equipped with a map and a questionnaire, children will discover a maze of greenery. The layout changes every year to suit the chosen theme and fairytales. This year, the 4 elements and the 5 senses are at the heart of this new adventure, offering an interactive trail where visitors become the actors of the story. For the foolhardy, a treetop adventure trail can be found near the maze: "la Balade en l'air" is open to children from 5 years old and offers four circuits with different levels of difficulty. Cargo nets, monkey bridges and Tyrolean ropes enables the adventurous to swing in treetops in all safety.
Learning together
The museums of Bessin bring history to children's level, enabling them to learn whilst having fun. The museum of the Bayeux Tapestry knows how much children love stories about knights: junior audio guides are available, offering a commentary specifically designed to tell children about the Epic of William the Conqueror. At the Juno Beach Centre in Courseulles sur Mer, two characters of fiction, Peter and Madeleine, guide children through the museum: They present the landing of the allies on Juno Beach and key aspects of contemporary Canada.
Going out together
In 2010, in order to prolong those special moments with the family, magical evening events have been added to the usual calendar: With a fireworks display, organised every Friday this summer at the Vauban Tower in Port en Bessin, and with "Rendez-vous à la Cathédrale" a new show of architectural projections, children and adults alike are sure to spend magical moments! The newly opened bowling alley "Bowling 868" in Bayeux offers another idea for family outings.
After the fashion of large French and European cities, Bayeux is going to be the scene for a new evening show, lighting up the heart of the medieval city from 15th July to 28th August.
Based on a concept of architectural projections, "Rendez-vous à la Cathédrale" is a spectacular voyage through history and imagination, destined to the whole family. At dusk, the cathedral will adorn itself with light and colour, revealing the finest details of its architecture. Close-by, in the courtyard of the "Hôtel du Doyen", the façade of the building will become a giant screen for the projection of dynamic pictures recounting 2000 years of history in Bessin.
